BATHURST CIRCUIT COURT.
THURSDAY, APRIL 18, 1872
(Before his Honor, Acting Judge, Sir Wm Montagu Manning.)

    Barristers present: Mr WB Dalley, Mr JGL Innes.— Attorneys: JN McIntosh, SG Fletcher, WTA Shorter, A West, W Morgan, ESW North

    Mr RN Isaacs, Crown Prosecutor. Judge’s Associate, Mr George G Deas Thomson.

    The Judge’s Associate read the commission from His Excellency the Administrator of the Government, authorizing and constituting Sir Wm Manning as Judge for the trial of assize causes at Bathurst

    The Associate also read the proclamation against vice and immorality.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 24th, 1872.
(Before his Honor, Acting Judge, Sir Wm Montagu Manning.)

    His Honor took his seat on the Bench at 9.30 am.

THURSDAY, APRIL 25th, 1872.

BEASTIALITY. [sic]

    The next case was one against a man named John Howard,  who was charged with having committed a horrible and revolting unnatural offence [with a bitch].  The prisoner had been committed on the capital charge, but that part of the indictment was withdrawn and he was put upon his trial for the minor offence.

    The evidence was altogether unfit for publication.

    The jury after consulting a few minutes, returned a verdict of Not Guilty.

    Prisoner was discharged.

    The Court then adjourned until 9.30 on Friday morning.
