BESTIALITY.
John [aka Edward] Toole pleaded not guilty to a charge of this nature, [bestiality with a mare ], committed at Howlong on the 26th November, 1880. He was undefended.
The following jury was sworn:—R Collard, F Gulson, C Hall, E Devine, WH Byrnes, W Jennings, W Bilbrough, FH Day, G James, J Chambers, A Baker, and R Burrowes.
The evidence in this case, which is unfit for publication, went to show that the offence had been attempted on a mare, and that the prisoner was very drunk at the time.
The prisoner addressed the judge, and the judge having summed up, the jury retired to consider their verdict. After half an hour’s absence they returned with an acquittal, and the prisoner was discharged.
