YASS CIRCUIT COURT.

THE April sitting of the Yass Circuit Court opened before His Honor Mr Justice Faucett on Wednesday last, and continued on Thursday.

    Henry Smith, alias Simson, was charged with having committed bestiality at Cootamundra. Prisoner was found guilty and sentenced to three years’ hard labour in Yass gaol.

CIRCUIT COURT.

THE April sitting of the Yass Circuit Court opened before his Honor Mr Justice Faucett on Wednesday last. Mr Plunkett acted as Judge’s Associate and Clerk of Arraigns, Mr Mann, prosecuted on behalf of the Crown, while Mr Ould represented the Crown Solicitor. The other legal gentlemen present were Mr Colonna Close, barrister-at-law, and Mr EA Iceton, solicitor. Mr T Colls JP represented the Sheriff.

    BESTIALITY.—Henry Smith, alias Simson, was charged with having committed this offence at Cootamundra on the 24th Feb last.

    Jury—H Patterson, M Coen, G Lanham, G Thomson, G Weatherby, R Colvin, S Grainger, W Collins, J Gallagher, R Crisp, T Southwell, and G Hill.

    After hearing evidence, the jury retired to consider their verdict, and after a short consultation returned a verdict of guilty of attempt. Prisoner was remanded until Thursday for sentence.

THURSDAY, APRIL 16.

    Henry Smith, who was convicted on the previous day for attempted bestiality, was brought up for sentence.

    Prisoner said he had never been before any court previously, and hoped his Honor would deal leniently with him.

    His Honor sentenced prisoner to three years’ hard labour in Yass gaol.

    The Yass Circuit Court commenced on Wednesday [15 April] before Mr Justice Faucett. The following cases were heard:—

    Henry Smith alias Simson was brought upon a charge of beastiality [sic] at Cootamundra, and was found guilty of an attempt, and sent to gaol for three years;
