QUARTER SESSIONS.

    Mr WL Merewether, Crown Prosecutor.

ALLEGED ASSAULT.

    John Greig was charged with assaulting Herbert Clarke on board the ship Albania on May 23.
    The jury, without hearing any evidence on accused’s behalf, returned a verdict of not guilty, and Greig was discharged.

    At the Darlinghurst Quarter Sessions yesterday, John Greig was charged before Judge Gibson with committing a shocking offence. The Crown case having been concluded, the accused denied the charge on oath, and the jury without leaving the box returned a verdict of not guilty.

    Mr WL Merewether, prosecuted for the Crown.

ACQUITTED.

    John Greig, 34, was arraigned on a charge of assaulting, [committing sodomy with], a youth named Herbert Clarke on May 23, on the ship Albania. The accused, who pleaded not guilty, was defended by Mr George Wallace.

    After hearing the evidence for the Crown and the evidence of Greig the jury, without leaving the box, acquitted the accused, stating that they did not consider the evidence supported the charge. Greig was accordingly discharged.
