BOUND OVER.
William Fairn, a middle aged man, pleaded not guilty to a charge of having on January 29, indecently assaulted James [or William] Cleary. The offence was alleged to have been committed at the Criterion Theatre.
The jury found a verdict of guilty on the second count of common assault.
His Honor said he could not understand the verdict. The accused should either have been found guilty of the more serious offence, or acquitted altogether. He bound the accused over in the sum of £50, to appear for sentence when called upon.
